WORSE THAN BRUTES.
Krook Kapers at Kaiapoi. iTh«re are some bright specimens of manhood, or youthhood, or boyhood, or infantliood, m Christchurch City, the home of piety and pentience, the home of girls and gaiety, the paradise of the moll and the mug, the place where the Chink and the cleric are at loggerheads, the city of illegitimate children ahd persons of debased mind who shock the moral sensibilities /of women and render themselves liable tcquotl. But respectable females have often not the strength of mind to step into the ,fcox at Court and give evidence against crook individuals who have-. ■•Bended against decency and against society m general. It is fellows of Vais low character who deserve to be horsewhipped or gaoled. But unfortunately, they don't always get their deserts! v/Mch is a damned pity. One crowd of hoodlums who- went . out Kaiapoi way on a late Sunday behaved m a most scaudalous fashibn. It was so bad, m fact, that it is very evident that the whole ' blasted crew are no good, and that drag-keepers or ownsrs should be very careful as to' the people they cart out on Sundays. It was this way : A party ot confounded larrikins engaged a brake and went out to Kaiapoi for -.the afternoon. What they had to drink isn't known ; perhaps they hadn't a-ny ; at all events, they ACTED THE PART OF BEASTS cm the homeward route on the Christ- ; church side of Stewart's Gully. This, is a favorite rendezvous of picaiicsrs on the Sabbath and holidays, andi; inanches off from the Kaiapoi Road. There were a number of well-known la-dia-3 out on this particular day, allon bikes, and they came up to the drag, when they observed to their disjust that these damned and blasted rascals were obeying a call of nature »n the road. Further than that, their exuborant spirits, if that phrase :an tensed, didn't stop at that, but Lhsy were gvilty of most abominable horseplay on >}ie road, and didn't desist from their dirty practices when the ladies came up and passed the vehicle, with averted heads. Said practices were of a kind . that nature would revolt at the mention of —a crime not to be mentioned jtmongst Christians ; an 'offence for which Sodom and its mate sufiered abolition ; it was only pretence op this occasion, 'tis true, but to commit such a heinous act m a public place m frent of -women, or anybody else, for that matter, is a thing that . can't b» too severely condemned. , The crowd shoakl be condemned to gaol for five years, m fact. The! pity is th&Vtheir - identity isn't known. The picnieers naturally 'didn't turn their faces to see the beastly brutes a second time, nor did they take stock ni th* driver, or the number of the vehicle. Otherwise the dogs might be brought to book. But what kind of a driver is teat bloke ? Why should he SBE WOMEN WANTONLY INSULTED ■. ... m that most outrageous manner ? Covtldn't he kave driven on when he sutfciced their beastly antics m front of rssjactahlc females * "•Xjarth" has has made enquiries and has discovered that the Vehicle m questionis not *n» that regularly goes to ICaiapoi on Sundays. The owner of that conveyance is a decent man and runs**j square. There are others, but theyare all right so far as has been ascertained. Ttexe is one solitary-ibloke who siands out m solitary . relief who .runs vehicles filled with young toffs and noffs on excursion trips only, and; 'fee is not a regular habitue of- that .road. If this is the sort of josser he Is he sj&ould be refused a. license-. } lot all time. He is no class ;he is a hog 3 he is unworthy to hold any. sort of a billet of the sort fbr five minutes, and "if there is any more trouble of the present character, this paper will publish 1 , his i name. ' Then he will know where his livelihood comes J Irom. Women will have to he jftotec- j ,ted from brutes of this sort and the alleged men who paid him their fare. If not, something will happen.
