THE CHEEKY CHOW.

Who comprises the alleged recently formed Chinese Association, one of the objects of which, according to a daily paper, is to take legal steps to protect the Chow from insults, which "have been extremely frequent m Wellington during the past six months ?" "Truth" has tried to find out and failed. The leading Chows m Wellington say the- daily paper is a liar, which, after ail, is not surprising. The Chow has not been insulted, at all. He only had the truth told about him, and this paper has been foremost m telling the truth, and if any Chow Association wishes to come forward and test the truth of the "insults," well and good. Such a test would be welcome. The Chow is cheeky and impudent enough to hand together^ and he seems to have got his back up over the recentlypassed Chinese Immigration Act and wants King Ned to withhold his assent, but King Ned is not likely to do anything of the sort. We have to rough hew our own destinies, and if our industries are not protected by. Act of Parliament the Chow will get things all his own way. White fruiterers and laundry-keepers find it hard to compete with' the Chow, and laundries m particular employing white labor ought to be fostered" by the community. There are plenty of laundries run by white people m this city, and they rightly complain of the lack of public patronage.
