It is five years last Saturday since the s.s. Elingamite was wrecked on the Three Kings, bound from Sydney to Auokland. Numerous attempts have been made to recover the treasure which went dowr v/ith the Elingamite, but, so far, little success has been achieved. The first attempt proved fruitless, the diver going over the wreck and failing to find any trace of the treasure. SubseI quent investigations proved that thc : diver had descended on to the wrong j vessel, his initial search being over another wreck lying close to the submerged Elingamite. Of the £1700 held m the grip of the sea, only a comparatively small sum has c o far been recovered, but it is the intention Of' thc syndicate ccn-cned to i resume operations again shortly.
