Bill Cummings' Grievance.
Bill Cummings is a man who won't let old sores heal. He is one of those men who nurse a grievance like a mother nurses baby. Billy is a chap who resides m Cliristchurch when he is at home, and he likes biffing cabmen. There are others who take on the same game, and fall m now and again ; but Jehu likes a fair go for his. money. In Cashel-street t'other night Cumniings had a fistic drive at a man of reins, who hadn't done him any harm just then. But it appears that there was a grievance between them previously and that Cummings rcmenrbbred it, so he banged ■cabby WHEN HE WASN'T LOOKING', and just as .he was lighting his choicest cigar. The cabman looked surprised, as a matter of course, and there was That trouble happened to be a policeman with a foot as long as from here to the day of judgment, and a .grip like the hug of a loving bear. Bill was charged with conduct which was likely to provoke a breach of the peace, and on pleading guilty before Magistrate Day. was fined a quid or a weckr— and it was carnival week at Cliristchurch, too. You never know your bad luck.
