MIXING THE BODIES.
A Disgraceful Happening.
A Palmerston North Incident.
Some few weeks ago this paper published a Fijian scandal concerning the mixing up of two dead bodies. The Roman Catholic corpse s:> nehov/ got into the Wesleyan churchyard and had Wesleyan prayers said over it before the mistake was discovered, and, of course," there was a hell of a rumpus about it when the thing came out. But it seems that there is no. need to go to Fiji for little mix-ups of this sort. Palmerston N. can fill m the gap without any trouble. Appears that the other day. a couple of people died m the local hospital, and all arrangements for burial were made. One was a poorperson and,' of course, it didn't matter much how he was .planted, but the , other had some standing and his widow naturally wanted a burial with some show of decency and taste. Everything was arranged, but at the last moment the widow wanted! one more look at her lost one, whom she fondly thought she was following , td his last narrow cell. The lid of the coffin was raised and lo and behold, instead of her cherished dead, it was the other fellow. Someone had blundered and put the wrong corpse into the coffin. What the poor widow's feelings were cannot be described, but anything so outlandishly shocking should not be possible .m a Christian community. An investigation should be made into this affair and the parties to blame brought to book without delay. .
