A Further Adjournment.
When the friends of Robert William Patterson., former owner of Solu- - tion, were horrified by the news of his ai'rest last week on a charge of •loitering m Manners-street, Wellington, after having been directed by, Bobby Turner to move on : also with using insulting language m a public place with intent to provoke a breactt of the peace, they imagined that the whole thing would be settled at the first .sitting of the Magistrate's Court but they did not know Patterson, who was determined to make the best of his opportunities,' and a remand was obtained until yesterday when Skerrett, K.C., was retained' to defend the ex-bookmaker. As it is necessary to employ junior counsel and solicitor Blair appeared m that capacity, the Court costs are mounting. When the case was brought on yesterday, a counter-charge was read accusing Sergeant Dale of assault oh Patterson. Tho alleged violence took place ih the nolice station when Patterson was being searched, and it is .stated that the officer was less gentle than he ought to have been. Mr Herdman appeared, for Sergeant Dale, aud explained that he had only, received his instructions on the nreyious evening. In the circumstances Mr Skerrett agreed to a remand till Friday next, when it is antici Dated the hearing of the case will he fraught with considerable interest. v
