BOXING.

* I Forthcoming Championships. The Southern contingent for the N.Z. Boxing Carnival, to be held at Axickland on August 30 and 31, left this morning. Tne Wellington reps,, m charge of Wellington^ Association Secretary Coffey, go North on Monday. T'he Australasian Amateur Boxing: championships are to be decided at the Wellington Opera House on September 10 and 11. The N.Z. r e ps. are to be. selected' after the championship contests at Auckland. The t'otherside pugs are expected to leave Sydney next Saturday m charge of Frank Underwood, secretary of the N.S.W. Sports Club. Bab Turner, to a Sydney press representative, expressed how delighted he was with the treatment he received at the hands of the Wellington public during his sojourn here. While Bob was here he suggested to the local Association that it should endeavor to make a match between Tommy Hanley, one of Sydney's coming Griffo'sj, and J. Godfrey, whose recent exhibition with Gosling stamped him a champion. Not slow to act on Turner's suggestion!., the Wellington Association recently made overtures to Hanley, through its Sydney representative, W. F. Corbett, with the pleasing result that Hanley has expressed his willingness to cross ; the Tasman and give the English-cum-Auckland champion an opportunity of further display-ins; his skill i» the hempen arena. Nothing: definite is fixed so far, though it is to be trusted that a match will be made and 'decided on or about. November 25. Hanley, by Sydney quid-nuncs is said to be a coming world-beater m .his class. He is undoubtedly one of the cleverest lads ever seen m the ring m Sydney. Con-, sidering the undoubted cleverness of j the rosy-cheeked Godfrey, such ' a mill ought to draw a record house, and provide for lovers of the noble art an exhibition seldom seen m this city. __.„__„_„„__«_
