WELLINGTON'S DIRTY LANES.

There are some lanes m Wellington that are a diisgrace-to the city, and -that one near the White Swan Hotel m particular calls for comment. It's private property, owned by rich man T. G-'. -McCarthy, and perhaps that is the reason no notice is taken of it. Then again, there, is a lane at the back of Veitch and Allen's which drunks' and others use as a privy, and insult • residents who complain. Why the police do not keep an eye on the lane, especially ' when residents complain, is more > than "Truth" can understand. '"Truth" also has a grievance. Luke's .. Lane ; of lfjtei, has been a quairmire, and it wouldn't be much trouble if Town Clerk Palmer gave instructions to •have ashes thrown dowin. Of course, if tins paper "smoodged" lots of things' might be done. , We'll "smoodsp" m another, direction one of these fine days.
