Britain had an army of 25.000 troops m the Crimea fifty years ago, and since then it is computed that fully 2796.749 veterans, each of whom saw the Light Brigade make their furious -dash- against the Russian cannon, have passed away, unhohored and unsung. Every town and every village m the Empire still has a few of the old 'uns left. An American physician, Dr. Andrew Christian, states : "If mothers would be willing to have their chii^ dren quietly put to sleep for ever when they are very young and show signs of "deformity or degeneracy, the world would be better." Truly a "Christian" proposal. A woman ia London went into s pub. and said, "Give me tw> of Scotch col'dV' She was served, and drank the liquor. Refusing to pay, she was arres-ted, and told the "Beak" at Bow-street, "I asked them to giv« me the drink, not to sdl it to me." The Magistrate ruled that the transaction was a gift, and not a sale, and discharged the, woman . "Critic," however, would not advise worn en swipers m Wellington to try iho same game. Our- "Beaks" are not so sympathetic.
