The- dev'lish tote contrivance still its victims young devour, And twice 'ten thousand "guessers" thus improve the shinteg hour : But the threatening menace to the ■ future of our race, Is the tote arranged for women who wish to go the pace. Remember, my dear brethren, 'that the Church is passed by man ; , The*, God help the collection if fr a il Eve frequents the tan. There are other forms of gambling, say property and land, But these be means of livelihood, for thou of moral brand. 'Tis true the poor are squeezed of rents, and pay exceeding high, But they are most ungodly, - antd will suffer 'when they die. If pious speculators gather m a dividend, The Church condones the wick-ed means which justify the end. Some modes of legal larceny, where moral wowsers win The cash of . sweated working-men— these gambles are no sin.
