©ur readers will no aoubii remember that we drew, attention m these columns to .the case of George Webb Hardy, the editor, of & smartlyconducted South African paper called "The Prince," .which .was published m Durban, who was .sentenced to a term of imprisonment for having exposed and denounced m Mis columns the immorality going on m certain of the schools. He declared it to be a fact that there were schools m South. Africa where the pupils i had 'heen detected m. carnjail armours with black übpys,"u bpys," and he declared that this state •of things was horrible, scandalous, and a menace to the purity of the white race. His imprisonment was condemned by* Mr. W. ; T.. Stead, and by other journalists. \ 'However,- Mr. ; Harifyi served 1 his term of imprisonment, and afterr wards became v.the editor - :of- the, Joliannesbury "Sunday Herald." " ..„ At last; proceedings before a criminal court have vindicated .the action taken by Mr. 'Hardy, and have . established the truth :of hfc article, which "he called "THE BLSfCK PERIL." He sends us the following account, cift from "The Transvaal Leader" of May 10, of precisely such a case as that for which he was imprisoned for publishing m "The Prince."
