SEARL'S SLAVES.
An Explanation Forthcoming.
"Truth" last week saw fi^ to ta'ka to task the firm of Searl and Co.. caterers, for the manner m which. they provided the necessary accommodation for the employees, and,, needless to remark, if such occurs m any other esijaiblishment, we should,, say as much again. However, with,-* reference to the matter of Searl's* ■, tire proprietors have given their ver- / |sion, Which deserves as much .prominence as the complaint received. Mb ! Searl states that the firm had jusl« taken over the Willis-street premises,, and that last Thursday , night week* before "Truth's" article 1 - appeared* the subiect of complaint had then, been remedied. According to Me SeaA, an error was made m the statement that a young woman \yas ill from the effects of the Water going through. She never slept m the fooia and her illness was due to QUITE ANOTHER CAUSE. According, still, to Mr Searl^ the second cook never slept m the place m his life. He is a , married man and. lives with his wife and family.. A . young man certainly slept on ; tho ' premises, because no locks had beea fitted on the doors, and.it was therefore Biecejssary for the protection of the women that a man was kept ir» the place. Tbe assurance has also been given that all the windows have been placed m; that the accommodation now provided is as good as any, of its kind m Wellington, and that all the young women are happy and contented and have no fault to find^ "Truth" willingly gives this information to the world, and trusts that it is correct, and that m future there shall .be no further cause lot com>pUi&t,4
