POLICE PAY.

BOBBIES GET A RISE.

There is great joy, or, there will foe great joy, m the police ranks.: They're going to get a rise. During the next session of Parliament Minister for 'Justice McGowan intends to submit proposals for an increase of screw for policemen-,- and' it is also possible that prison warders will be treated likewise. The reason for the rise is, of course, the high cost of living and the increasing burdens on the slop's shoulders. Commissioner D-iiwiie is said to -have recommended the rise, though whether lie suggests one for himself is more than "Truth" can say. Minister for Education Fowlds, at Auckland, t'other night, reckoned the police should get a rise, and was loudly, applauded. Probably he knew of the proposals, and posed as ths Minister responsible. Just as if there are no school-teach-ers who aro more m need of a rise than policemen.
