LIONEL TERRY.
Sent to Seacliffe.
/As a result of the sea-thing article recently published m "Truth,'' regarding the queer conduct of the Lyttelton gaol, Colonel Hume, inspector of ' Prisons, . who had his eyes opened, has been down inspecting' the institution and investigating the drastic criticisms made. He found that they were justified m every respect, arid made some very necessary alterations right away. One of the main scandals mentioned, it may be remembered, was the fact tljat Lionel Terry, of Chinese shooting notoriety, was housed m the gaol hospital the sole occupant (bar two warders from Sunnyside Asylum who were looking after him), while consumptives were dying m their cells, and other sick prisoners were treated m theiv cells also. This building is nicely, located on a hill, and contains all. the appurtenances of a hospital, yet for six months Terry had lorded it there, living on luxuries. Immediately on the appearance of "Truth's" article, however, the authorities decided to alter things, so Terry has been drafted down to the Scaclifie Asylum, and from there he will later on be sent to Larnach's castle; — ra^pJ-ftee—ptrrchased ,-by the Government for the treatment of criminal lunatics. Terry is as well \as ever, and is leading a somewhat luxurious life. Even if he is put to work a b Larnach's Castle he will be pretty closely watched. He has been fairly active with his pen since placed m captivity, but whether the efforts of his fanciful brain will ever see the light of day is pragmatical.
