ESTRANGED.
Sad is the heart that love has ne'er requited, That, yearning, waits, and it denied for aye, And sad the heart whose rosy hopes are bii'ghted, That sees love's vision like mirages fade away. Bu<t, ttesoiate beyond all human telling, When sweetest love had promised bliss serene ; The heart that wakes to feel how cold the dwelling, How void the shrine where love inspiring one had been". How have I slain life's all-sustain-ing treasure ? Alas ! how changed now all my heart did prize, A broken lute that wakes not to my measure— My idol still that has for me no heart nor eyes ? Thou 'hast closed against me thy •lieart's portals— 100-bound the founts of love and sympa'tihy., I Estranged ami cold as star apart from mortals, The grief between our lives tbou fettered not to me. Had you a oare, and I shared not thy grieving ? Had you a hope I strove not to ! attain ? Have I toeem* cold, unheeding, unihei Heving, Of blindly caused your heart to dwell m pain ? Oh',- Soar me dear, give ear unto my pleading, Let Love's sweet spring renew our lives once more 1 ; My heart is thine, for ttiee 'tis Kung'ring, bleeding, May faith illumine and unite us as before.
