Calculating the quantity of malt* employed m the spirit actually consumed, we arrive at a total corresponding to roughly 12 millions out of a total of 35 million gallons. On this basis it woulti appear that about one-third of all the spirit produced (and consumed) -is potable and two-thirds patent still spirit. It is interesting to note that the figures arrived at by the 'above process of calculation are borne out by "the leading trade authorities, who are unanimous m considering that the bulk of the whisky on the market consists roughly of one-third malt and two-thirds patent spirit.
