He will probably be given a chance to retrieve his bad form at the Easter meeting .there. Immolation, with 6st 131bs, was weir backed for the big race at Napier,, and started second favorite. There were two. horses, however, who prevented, Paddy' McLaughlin's prad from .paying ;. a- dividend. Polyanthus has done a deal of racing this i season with poor results. The Possible filly seemed very well at Christmas time, but I do not think she was benefited by being started, m so many mile and a half races. . Maid, of Astolat was made favorrite for the Esk Handicap, but the Karamu condidate, Erl King, was too goad for her by a length. The son of Birkenhead paid £A Bs, a good price considering his form at Dannevirke. Regulation's success m the Stratford i Cup was very well received locally, where her trainer, Joe ,lrallagher, is very highly thought of. Le Beau, Strayboy and Southern Cross were double winners at Stratford.
Splendid Idea was not taken to the Horowhenua meeting, neither was Ivanhoe.
Locally the speculation over the Horowhenua meeting was the poorest ever known.
Nomination for the South Canterbury Autumn meeting close on Wednesday. . .
There was a two horse, a one horse and a no horse race at the Horowhenua meeting.
Lady Storm, who took part at the Levin meeting, is under J. Lowe's care at Trentih'am.
Jos. Prosser railed Kuku to Masterton after the son of Gold Reel had failed to win the Levin Cup.

Sporting men will' be interested to hear that there is a full-brother (Abergeldie) to Moifaa, King / Edwar d's*horse,' running m a milk cart at Woodville. Both horses are by Natator out of Denbigh. .
Gazely's win at the recent Napier Park meeting, was long overdye, and it was qjuite time he notched a couple of races. He must have been in' rare form last week, although the class he metwds not too good..
Strayboy, who Won: a race on both days at , Stratford, is by the anoient Lebel, from a Dauphin mare; and is very highly spoken of.. His success was anticipated by his connections; who are reported to have had a good win. . ..;■■.■ ..■
It is not a. Very nice thing to. see a boojcmaker shoving, and bustling the 'police when they were ■attempting to arrest a ; drunken sailor, but such a" sight was witnessed outside •the Grand Hotel m.: Willis-street on Saturday evening, :, :■'.■■ ■
Contender: further demonstrated his improved • form by winning on both days of the Napier Park meeting. The horse was well backed . on several occasions prior to his Gisborne wins, but he must surely, have made up for lost time by now.
Playmate scored a long overdue win for his owner by 'annexing the Flying Handicap aifter a good .setto with .the Foxfcon-owned Waicola. The Porirua horse had the ' way made • easy -for him by the scratching pen being freely ..used. '.
Silver Lead was never prominent m the six furlong flutter on the first day at Stratford, ' but on the second day he showed wonderful improvement, which was anticipated by some of the' "-heads" m Wellington, and the Tommies knew it to their sorrow.
Douche, with,s,.6,:;lptiked. tp possess, a ''great chance m the Napier Cup, but the Jet d'Eau mare "was outpaced by G-azeley, who cut the distance out m Stalin 10 4-ssec. On the second da-". Douche again finished behind tlie> son of Grey Leg and Lygia.
There are two or three small meetings to-day, and then the big Easter meetings will occupy the attention of punters. Easter is a particularly, busy time, important meetings being held at Auckland, Feilding, Tauherin-ik-au and Riccarton, besides several smaller fixtures.
It has been whispered about for alons; time that when the " com " went on Rendrock he would win and the result of the Koputarva Handicap proved the correctness of this. As the horse paid '£6 4s it is a pity the owners did not put a bit more on the machine instead of taking a 3£ limit from the bookmakers.
Last Easter Douche was second to Melodeon m the Feilding Cup, after, running a really good race. In addition to this she won the principal race on the concluding day of the Fei/lding . November meeting.. The daughter of Jet d'Eau and Cartouche .seems-, to gallop generously on the Feuding course, and may have something to say m the settling of this years Cup. . >
Kuku is to be given a trial over hurdles..; .
Golden Comb and Tikirawa each won doubles at Greymouth.
Terrapin, who has bfeen doing a season or two at the stud, is again m work.
Victoria Park won his first race for his new owner at GTeymouth on Monday.
Slow Tom is again m work at Riccaxton, 'under the guidance of Taggairt.
The nominations received for the. Autumn meeting of the W.R.C. are highly satisfactory.
Munjeet and Isqlt are nominated for the Thompson Handicap at the forthcoming, local meeting. ,
The aged gelding Contingent (Workr man-Leonessa) was again on the running list at Greymouth.
Elevation will have a chance to get even on Glenculloch and Guidwife m the , C.J.C. Champagne Stakes.
Kuku and Pawa both ran second on the .first day at Levin, but the Porirua "stable secured a win with' William and. Playmate.
If Champion is taken to Patea he should be hard .to beat m the Hurdles,' and he has only been allotted IG;2 m moderate company.

Little Bob Young, who scales just over four stone, won the Horowhenua Cup on Handsome Rose. This is the first race that this lightweight has wonKbut as, he rides a very fair race for a lad it -should be the forerunner of many more, victories.
They are & very even lot of lightweights ,m the Auckland Eastern Handicap, and if the going is heavy it will be difficult to' sort them out. Under .ordinary conditions Aeolus, with 8.3, ■ and Sir Tristram, 7.10, look to. be well m, ' especially the latter.' .1 ■■'.

A local punter, who geher/jllly ptits a couple .c^E pounds on a horse, was last week the recipient of a Maori* tiki from, an admiring lady friend. Believing m the old adage that the tiki carries good luck with it he went for .a royal win on Parva m; the last race, but the son of Mahaki was not quite good enoußh, and now the ,punter is wondering if after all the tikies are lucky,
