FOOTBALL.

(By "Pakaha. 11 )

C.'G-roube, who played m the Melrose senior ranks -last season, ■ and Who has since been residing m Carterton, is likely 'to return to town to don the jersey for that Club this season.

Otterson, the brilliant midget half* back of last season's Wellington College team, will, so I am given to understand, be playing m the Old Boys' combination this season. He has the makings of a top-notcher behind the scrum.

Billy Wallace hinted at the Poneke Club meeting on Monday night that he intended pulling- quit, of the game when this coming season's Rugby had run its course. For that reason the All Black representative wanted the members to put some other player ia the position of Club captain. However, Bill was talked into' accepting another term of office, whereat there was much jubilation m the red and black camp.

Watkins, who is now. handling the theodolite away back m the backblocks up North, was • telling a friend of mine the mother day that he was unlikely to see any local foot/ball this season. On the other hand it is asserted that the Old Boys' forward will be found assisting his old love when the competitions are under way.

There was a great attendance at the Poneke meeting the other night, and what with "weed" smoke and the smell of fresh paint, the atmospheric conditions were not of the nicest. Some of those present had to do a "sepqt" before the curtain was finally rung down on the proceedings. Ernie Sutherland, the Auckland representative fullback, has arrived back m the Northern town after a sojourn m America. He will be available for Grafton this coming season.
