The Tanquerey photo swindle, so often exposed by Sydney "Truth," and- which has been worked all over Australasia, with more or ' less- success, has been tried on m South Africa. The Transvaal "Leader" m a recent issue published the following letter from a Pretonan who wrote : I may mention that' I was 'sent a coupon by a certain Mr Tanquerey, Paris, France. This gentleman also promises you a free enlargement, and upon sending my wife's photo I received a letter back, with designs enclosed for frames. If I would not have a frame, I had to send him 10s to defray expenses of sending the enlargement up. I think the public ought to know these things before sending their portraits, and thinking tbev are getting these things done for nothing.
