GRIEVANCES OF CITY COUNCIL EMPLOYEES.
_; j TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— ln my last . letter re City Council muddlement m paying its employees' wages, I told you that they intended to pay t us m three weeks from last pay day, January llth. The officials altered it since then paid ■ to-day. We* all had a fortnight and three days to come and to-night they gave us the magnificent sum of £2 2s on account until , next .w^elc.^. Now, ?Sir f2 how4s .a working, man to keep out of debt unde,r. such, treatment. . In this way we all owe tthe landlord a fortnight's rent, the tradespeople a fortnight's accounts, and all to. come out of £2. Surely, Sir, we deserve better treatment ' than this for the small wages they, pay. Hoping you will take the mat- ! ter up and help 200 unfortunate ■workmen. — I am, &c, CORPORATION EMPLOYEE. Jan. 25, '07. ' (This letter was mislaid, hence the delay m publication. It seems scandalous that the City Council: cannot pay its employees, but always seems on the struggle, like & starveling private business, the manager of . which pays partly m pence and partly m promise.— Ed. "Truth.")
