HUMBUGGED CORPORATION LABORERS.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,— Knowing* your paper for many years as willing to help the •working, man m any just cause, I wish to make a . complaint about the way the City Council serves its men with their pay-days^ For years' past it has p.aid ■fortnightly, but when Christmas comes along they $ay when and liow they like (viz,, , pay .'M days wait 1, 2 or 3 weeks). This may laist like this for two months ' before it gets settled down to its usual fortnightly pay. This Christmas , pay has never been recorded before ; they paid five days m advance of the usual pay day, although only one day to work off as a dead , horse, as they hold j three days m hand, and Christmas Day was a statutory holiday. The next pay day ' came twenty days [later, a fortnight's pay, still three days m hand. Now they tell us we ge,t no money for three weeks. Now, I Sir, is it any wonder the working man gets "into debt, when being paid like this. Look at the inconvenience it puts people to, the wife, the landlord., the tradespeople, etc., etc., just because it suits a few officials to go away for a month's holiday while we work and wait till their pleasure is over. Hoping you will take up the cause for 200 men and help them to get better treatment.— Yours etc., . . ' CORPORATION LABORER. Wellington,' January 16, 1907.
