CUTTS' CATCH.

Cottorfs Critical Condition.

A particularly smart action, thatis worthy of note, was performed at Awapuni on Saturday last \>y Harry Cutts, son of the veteran trainer of Riccarton. Knowing what an unruly brute Signalman is at the post the Riccarton mentor went out with him to the barrier m front of the stand before the start of the President s Handicap. As usual the Clanranald horse gave a lot of trouble and an official of the Club, on horseback, led him up to the barrier, but when Mr Angus Keith released the tapes the chestnut turned round sharply and unseated Victor Cotton, whose feet remained m the stirrups, and the lad's life was m imminent danger, as Signalman was lashing out all round, and was making off down the track when Cutts rushed over, secured his head and thereby, no doubt, saved Cotton's life. This plucky action was greatly applauded 'by the crowd who recognised the danger that Cotton was m, and'Outts was congratulated on all sides for his presence of sOind at such a critical juncture.
