That luminary of literature, the N.Z. "Times," has discovered that shop assistants of Wellington are dishonest, and belches forth two columns on the subject. The morning sheet carefully refrains from stating the amount of wages paid to these horribly dishonest men and women. It doesn't say that the counter jumper is usually paid anything from 30s to £2 for his week's work and that, be he married^ or single, he is supposed to make both ends meet and be scrupulously honest to boot. The timid, tumid "Times" goes for the Poor devil of an assistant, but leaves the boss bloke severely alone. The former 'doesn't advertise ; the latter does.
