There is no room left for doubt that the Crown did its level best to sheet home the charge of theft against Policeman Jeremiah O'Brien. He was nrosecuted by Crown Prosecutor Mvers m the Police Court ; twice the bewigged Myers keel-hauled him m the Criminal Court, and O'Brien will probably go through life haunted by Myers. The activity of the Crown, anyhow, is wholesome. It showed at least a p-enuine regard for the public against buccaneering bobbies. The journal is still ! firina acrid jets of sarcasm at the Maori Land Board, which apparently .rules the rooat, and says "It is one !of the dead failures of Maori town- ■ ships Hint there appears to\be no ; v/av of financing, even for health re- ' quirements."
