WHEN KATIE BANGS THE
I'm living up m Ghuznee-street where people put on style, And ladies greet the gentlemen with radiant morning smile ; And some of them are tempting enough to make us long ; But they are clean forgotten when Katie bangs the gong. For it's drop, your hooks and papers, And put the cards away ; . And all the horde, with one accord, • Spring up so light and gay ; And swiftly through the hallway The 'hungry boarders throng, Up at our toney ha,s>h towerWhen Katie bangs the gong ! She's tall, and slim, and pretty, with a skin like any child ; But not f6r that we: love, .this girl with smile demure and mild. We love her, every one of us, weak maids or men-folk strong, But it's for the joy . that fills us when Katie bangs the gong. For it's close down the piano And lock the phonograph ; It's drop the mild flirtation And raise a merry laugh. , Into the sumptuous dining-hali We lead the girls along ; And crowd the tables hungrily When Katie bangs the gong ! And Katie smdles demurely to see the boarders run, Her eves beein to sparkle with scarcely hidden fun. The men put gallantry aside, the girls forget "bong tong" The' mojment pretty. Katie trips up and bangs that gong. For it's "Lord, but I am hungry As never was before," And male and female rush the S rub, And choKe the entrance door. No matter where we're scattered, Or doing; write or wrong, You ou^lit to see us concentrate When Katie bangs the gong \ N.Fi Wellington, November G, '00.
