STARR'S START.

A BEASTLY BRUTE BOOBED.

; A lowj Wackguard fellow partly met bis. deserts at Christchurch last week when he got a stretch m quod, and was sent for trial on another charge. ; His name is William John Starr, and. •he, doesn't look a child-seducer, or a ihan whp would commit such an atrocious act, but one, never knows— the man who is deemed to be quite aboyc that sort of thing is generally the very fellow who gets nabbed for his pornic proclivities; \ The subject of this short article is a man of about .3,7 years of age, who has bad something 1 to do with trotters,, but who is at present working for ;the . Government as the^esult of having committed a. most filthy crime fpr which his punishment was far too lenient. The affair, happened at Woalstoiu and m the light of day on the public thoroughfarer-Hurford-street. The victinf of

STARR'S IMMORAL ATTENTIONS was 1 a' curly-headed little girl. She was walking along when she Was accosted by ; the low scoundrel. He was interrupted by two women who live m the neighborhood, and who are acquainted with the child, who was about to- be made the victim of his foul attentions. « He then got up and made off, but Constable McCormack, who was soon in-' formed of the 'most atrocious affair, .got on to Starr's track, and very speedily had the swine

UN^DER LOOK AND KEY. When -charged at the Stipendiary Magistrate's Court with obscenely exposing his person, and with indecent assault, Starr said he didn't know anything about it— an old excuse wtoich is generally advanced by a man who says -he has been under the influence of drink and has no recollection* of anything. The two women, who had* noticed the affair, Mrs Rachel Mullholland and Mrs Kate Aanie Scally,; described what they had seen. It; was a most filthy proceeding, grossly obscene m 'character, and. one of them shouted out to him "YOU DIRTY, LOW BLACKGUARD" '

The girl had been sitting oh the fellow's neck, facing towards them, and she got up and ran away. She was laughing as she did so. Then accused did a get also. The little, girl gave her evidence very clearly, and her mother, who was m court, said toy the prisoner : "I wish I'd been there and driven a knife into you," but was told to desist. The prisoner said he was not guilty, arid averred thatdie hadn/t exposed himself to the. child or to /the two women. He had talked to the youngster, he said,, but merely remarked that little girls like her should be at school. They sat down by the fence, but he hadn't treated her m an indecent manner at all.

But it seems that this blackguard ha? been before . the court previously for similar outrageous conduct ; he admitted having done six months only last year. Magistrate Day gave hire, twelve months this trip for ob-scenity--and sent him for trial on the charge of having committed an indecent assault.
