CRAWL TO CARNEGIE.
That conglomeration of spineless whelps, the • Mount Eden ' Ratepayers' Association, has just decided' to take a certain /action -which is' warranted to receive the condemnation of all right-thinking meri. Jn a word, these poor feckless, cringing things' decided this week' to. crawl on their bellies to "Blood and Sweat" Andrew Carnegie,- for a public library. The announcement was made on Wednesday and it is . understood. - that Secretary Meikle' has already despatched an appeal. Much good may it ■do Mount Eden if Carnegie dumps down £2000, for which they cringingly cadge. We would like to as^ these egregious. Edenites if they are aware how cruel Carnegie made his millions ; how he sweated the life blood out of thousands of men, women and children 'to succeed • how he obtained the services of the U.S. soldiery ,to shoot down m cold blood, the toilers whose very souls he had ground out until at last they were driven to rebel against his fiendish' fprtune-faking ? - We 1 would like' to-' o! ask these paltry;- pulseless parasites if they have te' ad Foster Fraser's description of; -.Carnegie's steel .works at^Pittsburgi,-: m America, which are at work', grinding the blood and tissue. >out of men at the. present time to 'build up millions for Carnegie— all for Carnegie ; and how that writer says significantly ''that there are no old men to be seen,, m Pittsburg , and that 'when he (Foster Fraser) expressed wonderment at this and asked of one of Carnegie's minions where -the old. men were he answered "Come along to the cemetery!" Is it at such cost as this that the new borough of Mt. Eden wants its library.?- Far better that its youth remained unlearned, than that it should gain its knowledge from books stained with blood. If Mt. Eden wants to star,t its municipal career with honor it will, without delay, stamp out the i suggestion of the rotten Ratepayers' "Association. It is devoutly to be hoped # that the newly-fledged Council will' take up the cudgefs and prevent this, bloody Carnegie blot from, disgracing, Mt. Eden's fair fame for evermore:
