The years have come and gone, old friend, • With sunshine and with shade ; '. And silvered is the noble beard ...That o'er your breast-bone strayed, In many a wayward, wind-blown tress, The whiskerest ever seen ; When you were eight and twenty, George, . And I was seventeen
Long years ago he used to be the har-
maids' benefactor, He sold good brands of whisky and ran Whitson's brewery ; With roving eye and flowing beard, each fair maid he'd attract ncr, He's resting now, he's had his day, Time will be served, you see.
When the fair land, of Poland was ploughed by the hoof Of the ruthless invader—he left the old roof, And out o'er the deep was a sailer. He lit m fair Auckland some century afeo, And he's been taking fits ever since— you may know By his coats and his feet he's a tailor.
