CORPORATION LABORERS.
No doubt spurred by the arguments contained m the article published m our last issue, under the above heading. Councillor ' Hindmarsh asked a very pertinent question at the meeting of the City Council on Thursiday evening, the answer to which on the whole will be extremely pleasant to Corporation laborers, and is eminently gratifying to "Truth." The Councillor asked the Mayor when the extra pay was to reach the men. and whether the increase should commence from the date it had been first decided upon. That question, it may be mentioned, was asked just m the nick of time, because it is not at all improbable that pay yesterday (Friday) would not have included the increase, and that the treasurer would have taken upon himself the responsibility to start the rise from that day. Mayor Hislbp agreed with the view taken by this paper and said he thought it advisable that' the increases should date from the time the motion was- passed, and the City Engineer was instructed to that effect.
