THE EARTH IS THE PEOPLE'S.

TO THE EDITOR.

' Sir,— l have read your article on the .Land question, m your issue of , September 8, and wish to congratulate you upon the thorough -manner you have dealt with the most Important question. As an advocate of land reform for many years, I am pleased to endorse all you have stated;. The earth's surface is the source of our existence, and if held as pti-. vate property by a few, the rest of the people are virtually dependent upon them for existence ; that is they are m a position to close up supplies and starve the others into a state of subjection, making slaves of them to all intents and purposes. The masses only require -to fee taught what their position really is, and as soon as they realise the fact the change must come. "" The people of Russia' to-day seem to be waking up to this fact and all the needy people on this globe should back them up to the best of their ability. If the surface of each country belonged to the people of each country, there would be no necessity for war and oloodshed, or taxation, no poverty, no crime, no necessity for police, magistrates, lawyers, or judges. All children born on equality, and no such thing as illegitimate'; but to-, day the whole machine is run by what is called capital, everyone struggling to get the better of his neighbor. The human race to-day is really no better than a mob of thieves. Take the three professions ; they are all either loafers or sharks. The doctor is licensed to kill, the lawyer is licensed to rob, and the parson is licensed to tell lies and grab fees, which he does to some purpose. Without an equal ristfit to the earth's surface you have no right to live. We read that the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, but the only Lord we know anything about is the landlord, and a nice individual he is, anyway.— Yours, etc., J.C. Sydenham, Sept. 11, 1906.
