TAPPING THE "TIMES."
PUBLISHER COMMITTED FOR TRIAL
At the Magistrate's Court yesterday, before Dr. McArthur, S.M. George W. Gaudin, late publisher of the N.Z. "Times" Newspaper, was charged with having at Wellington on May 26, 1906, stolen the sum of £4 16s, the property, of the N.Z "Times" Company, Ltd.' Gaudin was further charged with having; between April, 1904, and May, 1906, "stolen the sum j of £S3. Mr Findlay prosecuted an* Mr Herdman appeared far the accused, who elected to go to a* jury. Evidence was gone into at great length, most of which showed that the business of the "Times" must have been carried out m a most slipshod manner. Papers had been delivered of" which no check was ' kept, ■■• and accounts collected which had not gone through the books. The cases lasted nearly all day, and an tne conclusion of evidence, Gaudin reserved his defence and, -was committed to stand his trial at the next criminal sittings of the Supreme Court. Bail elf m £100 and two sureties of £100.
