THE YELLOW PUP.

Writes our Christchurch correspondent :— There was a much stronger gathering of the bilious Orangemen than usual this year when the Christchuroh Orangemen paraded anc marched to church headed by a band, no less, and the Elite at that. They looked brave when they got into their stride, decorated with sashes, and a long an-ti-Romish frown, but it was a pity the roads were muddy as they soiled their footwear. Yellow boots would have added to the tout ensemble, or words to that , effect, but none of the crowd wore yefrow boots. Bro. Ewart preached on Protestantism as it should be, and made feeling allusion to the late King Billy. Also, he exhorted the Orange Pup to attend church oftener and to bring the ki-ds. Ewart has an eye to his collections, and is 'quite business-like m that respect. The unnatural anthem concluded a very Pleasant afternoon. The Orange, influence m Christchurch is so microscopic as to be hardly worth mentioning ; yet it is little bigoted coteries of this sort who yap m a frenzied kind o.f way against an able" man like Sirjoe Ward becoming Premier of Maoriland, for no other reason than that he is a follower of "The Scarlet Woman." However, people of this stamp are eternally barking at the heels of better men than themselves. Their puny efforts are for the most part futile, and at best they can only cause bad dreams to mooch around' the premises. •
