.The Wellington 'Association hag intimated to the Auckland body that it cannot see its way clear to contribute to the Billy Murphy fund. The reason for the refusal is that instead of settling down to steady, business the old war-horse has given it forth that' he intends to spill gore m Sydney again and that the. test was not heard of him. ', Mr Atack, secretary of the New Zealand Boxing Council, writes as follows to Mr Keenan, secretary of the Northern Association (Auckland) with reference to the New Zealand Championships ,:— "I trust that your Association will endeavor to send representatives to the New Zealand Championships. It is not possible that all the good men are m the South, and the Council is very desirous of sending a really strong team to Sydney. The team will leave Wellington on August 3i, will compete on September 8 and 12, and leave Sydney on September 15, unless the members desire to stay over a week, the hotel expenses for the extra week being a matter to -be, dealt with later on." The authorities' of the Northern Association are keenly alive /to the neces-. sity of sending the strongest possible team South, and are doing everything possible to this end. ' Arrangements are well forward for the Wellington Boxing Association competitions to foe held m the Opera House on August 9 and 10. Tom Robson, hon. secretary of the Canterbury Boxing Association, has informed the local Association that the number of competitors will 'be seven. Several officials of the N.Z. ■8.C., including Messrs W. G. Atack and Ashman, will also be present. Representatives from Timaru and Ash(furton will also be present. At the meeting of the Wellington Boxing Association last Tuesday evening, Secretary ICoffey announced that advice had been received from Mr J. B. Holt, hon. secretary of the Otago Association, that the winner of the local championship would compete m the Wellington Association's fixtures. Arrangements havej been made to billet the Canterbury visitors at the Club Hotel, The others will probably be put up at the Masonic Hotel. His Excellency the Governor has announced his intention to be present at the competitions to be held m Wellington on August 9 atid 10. Sir Joseph Ward,' it is almost certain, will be present at the championship meetings. Sir Joseph by that time will probably have taken over the Premiership. He is patron of the Wellington Association. . : " The necessary permit was granted the Association to hold its competitions, on Wednesday, toy Inspector Ellison. .! Judging by the number of young fellows m Wellington who are making enquiries re the championships the entries should be fairly numerous. If so, the various events will be most interesting and worth going a long way to see. The Wellington Boxing .A ssociation championships are to be competed for about the middle of next September. The various Associations have been very slow m response to the invitation of the Wellington, body to form a governing centre. The Manawatu body has expressed its willingness to co-operate.. Anyhow, the Wellington Association are going to take the bull by the -horns and ere long the governing centre body will be m existence. Mr Harry, Windley, of Te Horo, Otaki, has been .m communication with Mr Coffey, hon. secretary of the Wellington Association, regarding, the possibility of forming an Association at Otaki. Mr Coffey' has- provided Mr Windley with the necessary rules and ere long I hope to chronicle the fact that Mr Windley has succeeded m what ought to "be an easy task. Buy the famous "Buster Brown" Post Cards.— 62 Manners-street, next Opera House.; The present internal dissensions of Russia are further intensified by the fact that the Duma has manfully stood up for its constitutional rights against the bureaucracy and the incompetent Czar. To Nickolas the Duma must seem a Doomer— of Imperial misrule. Justices are strange birds. A' man named Edwards went into a Queensland country town 'barbery to get shaved and the idiot of a barber, as "a joke" shaved off half his mous^tache, and when spoken to began to laugh and ran out into the street, the customer following him, cursing luridly— which even a parson might have done and been excused, under the circumstances. He was summoned for "langwidge" and the sapient sausages on the Bench fined the poor devil £.10, with the alternative of three months, while they dismissed his charge of assault by dis-. figuring against barber Alfred Gilbert. What Edwards should have done was to have smashed up the grinning fool's mirror things. He could not have cot 'more than he did, even if the scoundrelly practical joker had been game to proceed against him If Edwards is any sort of a man barber Gilbert will be wise to leave' the- town at his earliest convenience.
