“PROUD YOUNG FATHER”
Under the above heading the Auckland Star’ says:—Air Tom Wilford, Lather of Parliament,” is the paternal head of that well-known club because he began to be a member for Hutt when he was a mere lad. The people thought he was merry and bright. This point of view is much more likely to vtnke the average voter than the promises of a candidate that, if elected, he will have the British Constitution in order to get more metal for tlie Waimawararawa Riding. Lots of folks believe that Mr WilforcPs sense of humour has prevented him becoming Prime Minister or Chief Justice. UnXl- S t y® ar a sen se of humour in a Chief Justice would have been regarded as shocking. Air Wilford in larger surroundings might have been a great barrister. He has the dramatic gift. Any kind of personal public appeal to oe successful must be put over by one * lo r-. act> Wh y fcht> present Father of Parliament put over some of hits eflects one is unable to say. For instance, he appeared in a certain murder trial. He had. we will’say, been examining Smith. During this examination he had not mentioned either Jones or Brown, nor had thev anything to do with it relevant to the issue. But Air Wilford, in a loud, tense voice, turned In'the usher, and said, “Call Jones ami Brown!” The astounded Jones and Brown were duly called, marched up to the witness box, and halted. “That will do!” said Air Wilford, and Jones and Brown were tgken out again. Even fhc judge (who was exceptionally free from somnambulism that , day) looked puzzled, and Air .Wilford merely smiled like a superior Julius Knight.
