DANISH BUTTER
From November 15th a bill requiring that each cask of butter leaving Denmark is to bo duly marked with date of production, came into force Lloyd's Bank review states that “the object <f this measure is to inform our customers abroad, and especially English retail dealers, of the age of the butter when they receive it, which it is hoped will secure the butter being brought on the market for sale more quickly than has been the case hitherto. The first effect of this measure was a fall in the butter quotation from 302 to 284 kroner per 100 kilos. The fall was ascribed to the fact that the English buyers wanted to get rid of their stocks of undated butter before making freGh purchases, and thus serves as a proof that warehousing of Danish butter had really taken place." The low butter price made a resumption of the long stopped export to the United State© of America possible, although to a small extent only. Incidentally, Denmark had had to meet New Zealand competition in New York.
