SALE OF YEARLINGS
COLLECTION OF YOUNG STOCK EVENT AT TRENTHAM. At 10.30 a.m. to-day Messrs H. Chisholm and Co., of Sydney, acting in conjunction with Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., will hold the first of the annual New Zealand thoroughbred yearling sales in the birdcage at Trentham racecourse. This sale should provide a splendid collection of young stock and will probably have a market effect upon racing breeds. The success of New Zealand-bred horses in Australia will be an extra incentive for the competition of aur Australian friends, and even if New Zealand buyers hare to 6pend mors money than previously to retain the best the sale will be all in favour of New Zealand breeders, and a big encouragement to studmasters in this country. Excellent arrangements by rail and road have been made for the convenience of those who wish to be present at tba sale. All the leading studs in the Dominion are well represented in the catalogue submitted, and it is only necessary to mention tho names of the following breeders to show just what proportions this annual fixture should attain:— Messrs W. G. Stead, Sledmere Stud, Hastings; R. C. Wallace, Mangere, Auckland; J. C. Gleeson, New Plymouth; C. Brannigan, Ashburton; Dr. Ring, Auckland; S. J. Gibbons, Marton; J. and J. Patterson, Auckland; G. M. Currie, Koatanui Stud; W. C. Ring, Auckland; .T. D. Ormonel, Karamu Stud; F. Ormond, I. G. Duncan, Eldenslie Stud; W. R. Kemball, Masterton; J. F. Buchanan, Kinloch Stud, Little River; T. H. Lowry, Okawa, Hawke’s Bay; A. J. Toxward, Dannevirke; W. E. Bidwill, Featherston; John Donald, Westmere, Wanganui; and H. W. Brown, Wellington. All these breeders are well-known for the high-class stock that some from their respective, studs, and all on this occasion have yearlings to offer by the following siree, including the most successful at the stud in New Zealand and Australia:—Leighton, Lord Quex, Catmint, Valkyrian, Psychology, Grand Solferino, Kilbroney, Surveyor, Thespian, Absurd, Limond, Potoa, Paladin, Paper Money, King Mark,. General Latour, Tea Tray, Hymestra, Archery, Night Raid, Martian, Ghief Ruler, Tonbridge, Hallowmas, and Arrowsmith. If prospective buyers cannot find something to satisfy their, wants in such a collection then they must be deemed very hard to please. Besides the yearlings to be offered there will he a good number of two and three-year-olds, besides several wellbred brood mares and well-known racehorses.
