Excepting for the better classes, which were in good demand at late rates, competition was slack, prices declining j to 2 annas. Average prices were Commonest leaf, 7 annas 6 pies to 8 annas 6 pies; commonest broken leaf, 7 to 8 annas; ordin-. ary common Pekoe Souchong, 8 to 9 annas; lowest even leaf. Pekoe, 8 annas 6 pies to 9 annas 6 pies. londoFwool sales The Department of Agriculture lia6 received the following cablegram, dated 19th instant, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London :—"Wool sales opened yesterday (Tuesday), with large attendance. Continental section well represented, and excellent competition. Compared with closing rates for last series, finest merino 5 per cent, dearer; others, merino fine crossbred par to 5 per cent, higher, coarse crossbred and medium crossbred firm and unchanged. Total available for series 131,000 bales, of which 42,000 New Zealand, 81,000 Australian, and 4000 South American.” LONDON TALLOW SALES Messrs Dalgety and Company, Limited, report having received the following cablegram from their London house under date of the 19th instant:—"Tnlloiv: 1165 casks offered. 361 casks sold. Prices 110010086(1." The Bans of New Zealand, produce department, has" received the following advice from its London office under dote 19th instant:—"Tallow: In fair demand ; at current prices.
