WAS THE EMDEN RIGHT?
CONTROVERSY IN CAPETOWN “THE ONLY WAYLAYS CAPTAIN. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. CAPETOWN, January 18. A warm controversy continues over the Emden incident. Many letters of protest have been published, but the general opinion is that the Emden’s action was fully justified. It is nowstated that the police did not request the use of the hose, bqt they admit that the crowd was unmanageable. The commander, in an interview, expresses great regret, but says that it was the only way Of preventing a terrible tragedy. He acknowledges an extremely cordial reception in Capetown, without ( single Case of unpleasantness.
