DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS PLAY AT AUCKLAND NEARING THE FINAL GAMES Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, January 19. The post-section play in t the Dominion bowling pairs championship was resumed this morning in fine but cool weather. Only the green winners will go forward to tbe post-section play. Nine green winners were found yesterday afternoon, but as the rinks competition was in progress this morning the remaining 10 are being decided as the opportunity permits. The results in the matches played this morning are : Section C.—Scrivener (Wanganui Bast) 23, Inglis (Epsom) 15. Section F.—Daniels (Kemuera) 24, Chapman (Ponsonby), 10. Section G.—D. Smith (Dunedin) 25, G. Clerk (Mount Albert) 15. Section H,—Proctor (Remuera) 20, Caughley (Kelburn) 16. Section I Atkinson (Kahutia) 26, Kilgour (Carlton) 20. , Section K—-Jack (St. Jobn s) 23, Radford (Manawatu) 20. Section o.—Benefield (St. John’s) 21, Spiller (Wellington) 16. All the result seven rinks are left, namely, Stewart (Dunedin), two lives; Hayden (Takapuna), two lives; Walker (Auckland), Benefield- (St. John’s, Wanganui), Laurenson (Carlton), Mcßobie (Bemuera) and Pilkington (Hamilton!, all with one life. DETAILS 0F PLAY , INTERESTING FEATURES. A feature of to-day’s play was the defeat of Harraway (Green l6land) by Pilkington (Hamilton) in the third round of the rinks championship. Harraway skipped the winning rink last year and Pilkington skipped the .1925 champions. The Hamilton team began well, ana at the end of the twelfth head led 12 to S. lighting hafd, the Green Island fink drew level, at 17 all on the eighteenth head. The Hamilton rink added three oh the next, and 13reen Island one on the twentieth, Hamilton thus beinß two up on the last Head. In the final head Pilkington was lying two when the skips changed ends. Harraway drove hard and picked up the jack, which rebounded on to the green. Had the jack gono in the ditcn Harraway would have been lying two, making Che scores equal. As it was he lay the Bhot, and Pilkington drew a second. Harraway again drove With his last bowl, but failed, and Pilkington's |he winners of an- exceptionally exciting game. Walker (Auckland) and Smith (Dunedin) met in the third round. Smith led until the twelfth head, when Walker • went ahead to lead 15—14. Every subsequent head was well contested, but the Auckland team was doing slightly better work. Pour on the seventeenth gave Walker a lead of seven, and drawing in splendid style ho won the game at the nineteenth head by 29 to 15. Two two-lifers, Hayden (Takapuna) and McHobie (Remuera) had a great contest Tn the third round, Hayden winning by one point. Both teams relied mainly on the draw, and some very fine heads were built up. The game was 12 all it the eleventh head, and the Takapuna rink then gained a lead which their opponents just failed to reduce. Benefield (St. John's, Wanganui) registered a convincing win ovct Truscott (Carfton) in the third round. After leading 19 to 14 at the fourteenth head the Wanganui rink drew away to win, 27 to 14. Laurenson (Carlton), had a convincing win over Elvy (Devonport) in tho third round. The latter rink, which started the day with two lives, vrere off their game.
