“THEY KNEW WHAT THEY WANTED”
To-night at the Grand Opera House the J. C. Williamson, Ltd., Moscovitch Company will produce for the first time in Wellington Sydney Howard’s much-talked of play, “They Knew What They Wanted.” Owing to its frankness it has become the most discussed play of recent years. Both the Press and the clergy have been keen critics, some for and some against. Corn menting upon the opening performance in Sydney a Press critic says:— It is a gloriously human drama, magnificently acted. As a realistic representation of life as it is, it is a masterpiece. Grimly realistic, beautiful in setting, and unexcelled anywhere in the world in the characteriastion and presentation. Strong praise, admittedly, but only justice. Supporting Mr Moscovitch, who plays the role of “Tony,” in which he is said to excel, will he Nat Madison as Joe, another fine part for this clever artist; Ellen Pollock, Alexander Sarner, J. B. Atholwood, George Zucco, Miss Margaret Murray,! Leslie Donaghey, John Harper, Reginald Newson, Miss Kiore King, Miss Kerrie Kelly, and others. Only two performances of “They Knew What They Wannted” will be given : n Wellington, to-night and to-morrow night, the company leaving for Christchurch Friday night.
