MAHENO DELAYED

DISPUTE OVER SHIP’S COOK INCOMPETENCY ALLEGED. The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Maheno, which was to leave Wellington at 4 o’clock yesterday for Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and Melbourne, was postponed until noon to-day owing to a dispute between the firemen and' stewards. Tho trouble occurred through the firemen refusing to sail with the ship’s cook, whom they state is incompetent, while the stewards decline to sail if the cook’s services are dispensed with. Every effort was made both by the Union Company and by the union officials of tho Firemen’s Union and the Cooks and Stewards’ Union to settle the matter, but without avail. It is hoped that tho dispute will bo adjusted this morning to enable the vessel to sail at noon.
