PRISONER ESCAPES

CHASED BY CONSTABLE. Per Press AssociationTAIHAPE. January 11. George Edward Wolch, a prisoner at Erua prison camp, escaped lasi night and arrived at Tailiape this morning by an early train, in a metal truck. On alighting he was observed by a constable, who gavo chase, but Welch escaped and got away into the back country. The police are scouring the country, but so far have been unsuccessful in apprehending Welch, who is believed to be making for Wanganui, where he is well known.
