WOLVES ATTACK HORSES

A DESPERATE FIGHT. lu spite of the continued warm weather, the village sin the Carpathians are suffering considerable damage from wolves. A peculiar episode occurred recentlv in the Zurja Valiev, where for weeks wolves have been attacking the horses at grass in the meadows of Janos Koral. Seeing an old wolf come to attack the foals, the two men in charge of the horses look flight, but a stallion in tile herd rushed to Iho vescuc with heels and teeth and a desperate fight ensued. Eventually the horse was able to fasten his teeth in the wolf s neck, and, dragging the stunned beast ulong with him, galloped through the woods to the farm, where ho dropped his enemy at the feet of his waster.
