GIG COLLIDES WITH TRAIN YOUNG GIRL INJURED FOUR COMPANIONS THROWN CLEAR Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, January 9. Five children had a narrow escape this morning when a goods train struck a gig at the Templeton railway crossing. The children were driving to the store, the eldest, aged 14, being in charge of the vehicle. The train struck and killed the horse, and smashed the gig to pieces. The driver, Ethel Nelson, suffered injuries to her head, and fractured a shoulder. The other children, Eva, Lester, Percy, and Isabel Challerton, aged 13, 6, 4 and 2 years respectively, were thrown clear and cscajied unhurt.
