SOUTH AFRICA’S FLAG
LATEST PLAN DENOUNCED Published In "The Times.” LONDON, January. 5. The Capetown correspondent of “The Times” says that General Hertzog’s Flag'Bill has been received with dismay and surprise. The Prime Minister seems to have given way to his old failing of reacting to the last strong personality with which he was in contact. It is now Colonel Cresswell, Minister for Defence, who has persuaded him that resistance would cease if confronted with a Parliamentary majority. There is not the faintest possibility of the South African Party accepting the farcical idea of incorporating the Royal Standard in the new flag, which idea suggests an attempt to involve his Majesty in a local flag squabble. General Hertzog has never realised the spontaneity and depth of attachment of English South Africans to the Union Jack.
