Lindsay, a member of the Canterbury team selected to compete at the New Zealand championship swimming carnival at Auckland, swam a challenge race against .A. Stokes and P. Hill at the East Christchurch baths to-night, over 880 yards. Lindsay won easily by 35 yards from Stokes, with Hill 15 yards further hack. Lindsay’s time, llmin 54 3-5 6ec, is a New Zealand record. The previous best time registered in the Dominion was llmin 59 2-ssec, by A. Baird, of Auckland. N.S.W. CHAMPIONSHIPS CHARLTON WINS HIS HEAT By Telegraph.—Press A«sn.—Copyright. Henry won their heats in the 100 yards, and “Boy” Charlton and Griffith their heats in the 880 yards State swimming championships, the finals of which will be swum on Saturday, when the Japanese champions will compete. The Japanese contented themselves with exhibitions to-night. No very fast times were recorded.
