MINISTERIAL The Minister for Education (tb* Hon. R, A. Wright) will leave on Monday evening for Blenhe'ni. He will spend Tuesday at Blenheim and pren ceed to Christchurch on Wednesday, travelling via Kaikoura and Cheviot. The Minister will be in Christchurch until the end of next week, when he will return to Wellington. The Attorney-General and Minister for Defence (the Hon. F. J. Rolleston) returned to Wellington - yesterday morning..

The Minister for Public. Works (the Hon. K. S. Williams) arrived by tbe Napier express last evening.

Mr W. 11. Maloney, personal secretary to Mr Leon Gordon, author, and producer of, and actor in “White Cargo,” which has been breaking all records in Australia, is in Wellington making preliminary arrangements for the presentation in Wellington of this much-discussed play.

The funeral of the late Rev. Jo3iah Ward, of the Methodist Church, wax largely attended. Divine service was held at Trinity Church, Wellington South. The casket was received at the church gates by six local ministers, and was carried by them into tbe church. The service was conducted by the Rev. A. N Scotter, and the lesson was read by the Rev. W. Greenslade, chairman of the Wellington district. In a brief address, Mr C. M. Luke, representing the oldest friends of the family, paid a warm, tribute ic the memory of the departed minister. The interment took place at Karori cemetery, the bearers being Messrs R. P. Ward, F. Ward. H. McGowan, A. E. Parker, W. Coventry, and N. Seddon. Numerous floral tributes were, received, with messages of appreciation and sympathy from all ports of the Dominion.

The death is reported at Picton of Mr W. E. PearsOn, formerly a wellknown, resident of Wellington He was born in England, and came to Australia aa a young man, and while there participated in some of the gold rushes. Over thirty years age he came to New Zealand, and eventually settled -n Wellington, where he started business as a secretary and accountant. Mr Pearson was for a considerable period secretary of Hie Wellesley Club, and was much esteemed by its members. For some time he acted as secretary of the Wellington Golf Club and was one of the founders of hockey in this city, forming the' United Hockey Club, which was composed originally of members of the Wellington Cricket Club. Mr Pearson captained the United Hockey Club during the period, when it won fire annual championships, and he bad the distinction of being a repreieftative player on his fiftieth birthday. In addition to being a cricketer, his activities extended to acclimatisation matters, and he was for a time a member of tbe Wellington Acclimatisation Society. Some years ago his• health began to fail, ahd he left this e tv to live in the French Pass, from which plate he latterly removed to Picton. The late Mr Pearson was a man of a .particularly genial nature, and he will be much missed by his numerous friends in all parts of ,the Dominion.
