FRIENDS FALL OUT
LITTLE PRIVATE. DONNYBROOK DISPUTE OVER A HORSE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 10. “The whole thing is very unfortunate. They were the best of friends, bub they had a little private donnybrook,” said Mr Byce Hart in the Pojice Court, when Arthur Cole and James Johnston were charged with assaulting one another. Mr Hart appeared for Cole, and Mr Fraser for Johnston. “Are they good friends again P” asked Mr F. K. Hunt, S.M. “Oh 1 , yes, it is all over now,’ 5 said Mr Hart. The magistrate: Then get out of th© court, and let them shake hands. Mr Fraser: That will suit me. The magistrate suggested that both sides should share the costs, but Mr Hart said, “Oh, we will pay the costs.”
The magistrateOh', your man got first blQw in, did he? Mr Hart was explaining that this was not th© case, when the sub-inspeo-bor intervened.
The magistrate: Ob, it is a police prosecution, is it? 1 thought it was a private one.
The sub-inspector explained that the dispute had occurred between the men in regard to a hors© at the saleyards. They were separated, but tho -dispute was later renewed outside the yards. Johnston was tripped up and struck his head, being rendered unconscious. The magistrate (glancing at counsel for each defendant in turn).: A guinea there and a guinea there* That is sufficient. Go away, now. The oharge against Johnston was dismissed as trivial, and that against Cole was dismissed on the payment of costs. ’ 1 1. .
