KITCHENER’S BODY
POWER’S HOAX FULLY EXPOSED COFFIN WAS NEVER OUT OF ENGLAND WHOLE STORY UNTRUE By Telegrapli.—Frees Asen.—Copyright. Australian and NZ. Cable Association. (Received September 10, 8.5 p.m.) LONDON, September 9. The Home Office ended the Kitchener hoax with an official statement to the effect that exhaustive inquiries have conclusively established that the coffin never left England. It lias been able to trace it to Newcastle, where it was stored until it was sent to London, allegedly containing Kitchener’s remains. It vouches for the fact that the coffin was not tampered with in
any way. Furthermore, the Norwegian authorities gave no permission to anybody to open a grave in their territory. The public may, therefore, be satisfied that the entire statements are without foundation. The statement adds: “Power staged an elaborate mock funeral in Norway for film purposes.”
