MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
MONTHLY MEETING ROADING REQUIREMENTS. The Makara County Council met yesterday, Mr E. Windley presiding. Also present were: Councillors L. C. Bryant. D.* Prosser, A. G. Mexted, H. J. Monaghan, M. S. G. Monk, D. Sloane, and R. \V. Bothamley. TITAHI f S DEMANDS A deputation consisting of Messrs \V. Appleton and W. Arlovv waited upon the meeting in respect to the condition of the road leading up to the new subdivision —between Johnston street and Richardson street —at Titahi Bay. It wns pointed out that when the contractors completed the new subdivision they left the side roads in a had state of repair, and this had caused Mr Arlow several accidents in the course of getting up to his property. The deputation submitted that it would not cost a great deal to put the road in question, and also that portion near tne gravel pit. in gool order. Generally speaking, they were satisfied with the roads at Titahi. The chairman said ho was fairly safe in saying that the work would be ; curried out. It was not a big undertaking, and it would give access to the greater portion of the subdivision if the road; were opened up. At present. ho agreed, it was out of the question to get up and down the road with a car. It was decided to carry the deputation’s requests in respect to the more important work into effect. MAKARA HILL Mr S. Luxton, of South Makara, made reference to the Makara riding road improvement scheme, and explained that the deputation that was to have waited on the council had j withdrawn owing to the fact that it had been noticed that desired work was now being carried out on the Makara hill. Ho complained of the delay that had been occasioned in regard to this portion of the scheme, and pointed out that the loan for £I2OO had been sanctioned by the ratepayers two years ago. He now congratulated the council on the fact that it was proceeding with the most essential work on the hill. ft was reported that qf the £I2OO raised, £67H remained, and £.500 of this amount u'ould be expended on the Makara hill. The chairman explained that the council’s pplicy of combining maintenance with construction work had prevented the hill being attended to pieviously. Other work for which the loan of £I2OO was raised had been carried out in the meantime. Ho assured Mr Luxton that the Makara riding’s interests were being closely ' guarded bv their representatives on the council.'
